Health and Public Services Technologies News and Updates
On the Cutting Edge
What’s “new” in the Health and Public Services Technologies (HAPST) here at RCCC? Well, we can start with the faculty. We are delighted that Kristen Lowe, Kelly Neymen and Keith Paulus have joined our HAPST team. Students in these respective programs will now have the experience and expertise of these seasoned professionals to support them in their educational journey. Kristen and Keith are nursing instructors, and both join us directly from the healthcare industry. In fact, Kelly comes to us from a sister community college and will be teaching early childhood education this fall.
Moreover, three HAPST programs have received news that they will be occupying new facilities in the spring of the coming academic year. Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing are slated to occupy newly constructed spaces at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC). These new facilities are being designed to simulate the hospital environment to better support students in transition to the real world of clinical medicine. Naturally, the students, faculty and leadership in nursing are very excited about this transition. We will keep everyone updated as this move to NCRC unfolds.
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) on South Campus will also be moving into new quarters in the spring. Currently, this program operates out of a single classroom and office suite. Its new space will be in the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Administration building. The BLET program tentatively will occupy approximately 17,000 to 20,000 square feet. This square footage will contain multiple classrooms, laboratories and office space. Moving from the tight quarters on South Campus to this new space is certainly welcomed by everyone involved in this program.
Finally, Angela Graham, our part-time administrative assistant in nursing, will become full-time beginning the new academic year. RCCC has reaped the rewards of Angela serving our nursing students and faculty in the past and looks forward to her contributions to the college in the future.
