This presentation will focus on the four (4) primary vehicles for transfer from North Carolina’s community colleges into four-year institutions. This session is recommended for anyone interacting with students: faculty, advisors, recruiters, administrators, etc.

20 Must-See Essential Box Tips and Tricks

Discover the power of Box. Participate in an innovative hands-on training experience as we take a deep dive into the many features Box has to offer. We will demonstrate keyboard shortcuts, adjusting box view, bookmarks, search, notifications and sync folders. Unravel the mystery of comments and tasks, access stats, change folder owner, share links, file saving and other features.

Have questions about accommodations? Are you curious about what an instructor does when a student with a disability enters their classroom? Then you need to come to this session! The Office of Accessibility will share the accommodation process from beginning to end, along with examples of accommodations found in our classrooms. Instructors will also share their recent experiences in supporting students with disabilities.

(A**) Accessibility Action Plan

It all starts with a plan! Knowing where you are and where you are going is important for anything you do. Join us as we explore the essentials of an accessibility action plan. During this session we’ll talk through your course content and discuss possible approaches based on your planning style and help get you started on creating your own accessibility action plan.

Presenters will be Marcia Miller, Joan Creeger, Jenny Billings & Melissa Reid who will provide a refresher on registration mnemonics and information regarding advising of developmental courses specifically in the MAT and English areas.

Drop in and checkout the disability simulators. You can drop in during any of the available times. We anticipate the simulators to take 15-20 minutes to complete. If you interact with all the simulators, this can count towards the Accessibility Certificate as your third accessibility session. Please note, because this is not a 50 minute session, participant attendance compensation is considered to be included in the certificate stipend.

Blackboard Can Do That?? Tips and Tricks to Simplify Course Navigation and Management

As the saying goes, sometimes it’s the little things that matter and in this session we’ll look at little things you can do to simplify your course navigation and management.

Caring for the Skin You’re In

Like the heart, stomach, and brain, your skin is an organ. In fact, it’s the largest organ, and since it’s the body’s largest organ it demands extra TLC to maintain it in optimum condition.  Over the past four decades we have been bombarded by the media urging us to buy and use all sorts of creams and potions to make us look our very best.  Now more than ever, the everyday consumer is confused as to what to use on their skin.  This class is designed to debunk all the media hype and give you true facts about how to care for the skin you’re in.

Topics discussed in class:

  • Tips for taking care of your skin

Collaborative Art Project

Have you arted today? Take time for creativity and stop in during any of the times listed and make your mark! Participants will be given a ticket and will be entered into a drawing. Winners to be announced at lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday. Art will be unveiled after the the closing keynote on Wednesday.

(CR*) Concerning or Worrisome Behavior: Resources to help

Worrisome & concerning behavior might be described as those behaviors that require more than classroom management or a performance improvement plan, but may not require campus security (or 911). Will discuss when, what and how to report along with intervention resources. Participants will have an opportunity to work through a few scenarios.

This session will help participants create a global module or student learning activities for their course. Through best practices and two case studies, facilitators will point participants toward resources as well as provide an opportunity to start their own design process.

With the proliferation of sites like Quizlet, preventing cheating in online environments has become even more difficult. During this session we’ll talk through ways we can discourage cheating in online environments. If you have specific assessments that you would like to discuss bring them!

(CI*) Emergency Conditional Authorization: A Powerful Tool for Faculty & Staff

As a faculty or staff member, have you ever wondered what authority you have to act to mitigate an emergency crisis on campus? Have you also wondered whether you are required to contact a supervisor or administrator before you can act in an emergency? This class will answer these questions and many more related to the topic of emergency management on campus. In 2014, the College undertook a major effort to update its emergency response policies and procedures and bring them into line with the National Incident Management System. This is an ongoing process that continues to this day.

Every Body’s Yoga

This session will include a brief explanation of mindful exercise like yoga and its benefits for health, focus, stress reduction and relaxation. Presenter will teach abdominal breathing, proper spinal alignment and postures to increase strength, flexibility and balance.  Participants will also learn a series of movements to use for morning warm-up and relaxation.

Everything You Need To Know About Protecting Personal Information

Prepare for an informative learning experience as we guide you through the steps to follow in regards to protecting personal information. Learn everything from how to protect personal information of students, employees and corporate customers to how to share and store that information. Unveil the information you are protecting, where personal information is found, RCCC’ s policy, how to report findings, processes that have been implemented to assist you in keeping your data safe and secure, resources that are available to you and much more.

 Introducing The Next Generation OnBase Desktop Application

The Unity Client is an OnBase desktop application which offers an intuitive ribbon style that is normally seen in Microsoft Office products. Users will have access to features that will assist them in navigation, personalizing their interface to quickly access forms and functions and performing their primary job tasks. During this session you will learn how to navigate, build your personal page, access forms and workflow and perform batch processing.

Marketing and recruiting has changed dramatically over the last few years across the country and here at Rowan-Cabarrus. Join us for an informative session on what the College is doing, what you can do to promote your program, and how to get assistance from the College to do so.

The College has also spent time and energy developing a brand new website. This new site emphasizes our program offerings and will be a valuable tool for us. You will be able to see the new website, review and we can make tweaks before the final launch of the website.

Setting Realistic Weight Loss Goals

Did you start off great this year exercising and eating healthy?  Are you are off track and can’t find your way back? Are you ready to make a change and reach your weight loss goals. If you answered yes to any of these questions, this session is for you.  During this session I am going to give you tips and ideas on how to set realistic goals you can reach and how to see the results you are looking for.

Streamlining DRE and ENG-111: Writing and Revision Strategies (2-hour session; overlaps other sessions)

In fall 2016, Rowan-Cabarrus DRE instructors were selected to participate in a grant-funded, “Writing and Revision” curriculum. In January 2017, the ENG department hosted a meeting where a panel of “condition” instructors spoke with “control” instructors about the benefits of the program and potential inclusions for future semesters. This presentation will summarize the adopted strategies that will be implemented in all DRE and ENG-111 sections. DRE and ENG instructors are highly encouraged to attend so they can prepare their courses over the summer for August 2017 deployment.
