A Pathway to Inclusion

Every day we are tasked with communicating effectively across cultures with colleagues, students, vendors and members of the general public. It can be difficult but, it doesn’t have to be. Join us in these interactive learning and growing activities.

In this session we will:

  • Discuss the basics of cultural competency
  • Identify the benefits celebrating similarities and differences in culture

Addressing Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity through Dual Enrollment

With a unique focus on diversity, inclusion, and equity, all tailored to each of our three school districts’ needs, participants will learn how RCCC continues to successfully address diversity to build an inclusive culture and community for our dual enrollment students. Participants will learn how we support our Career & College Promise students, including Early College students, from the beginning phases of outreach through pathway completion and/or graduation. We will also provide a general Early College/CCP update and introduce our entire team that has joined RCCC this past year.

Charting a Course for Instructional Success: Navigating Library Resources

Looking to expand your students’ resource options? Ready to dive into information literacy skills? Want to know more about how Librarians can support your online classes? Then this seminar is for you! Learn best practices for effectively using library resources and services to achieve successful student outcomes. All participants will receive vouchers for coffee at the new coffee kiosks coming soon to the Libraries.

Cybersecurity 101

Lock it down! Cybersecurity is one of the biggest threats that businesses and families face today. Prepare for an informative learning experience as I guide you through the steps you need to take to protect you and your family. We will take a closer look into identity theft and malicious cyber-attacks. Then switch gears and share tips on passwords, personal security, social media and email.

Developmental Reading & English Redesign: Introducing ENG-002 & ENG-011

This session is required for ACA, DRE, & ENG faculty. Because of this, multiple sessions will be offered. Attend a session to learn about the DRE redesign, effective fall 2018. As a pilot institution for North Carolina, Rowan-Cabarrus will be offering two new courses, ENG-002 and ENG-011. Learn about the changes in curriculum and technology, how to prepare for fall ’18 courses, and what the state requires and expects of us over the next few years.

Less Work, More Productivity with Box

Come and explore the basic features of Box. The secured online file storage, sharing and collaboration solution that is offered to all RCCC employees. Box provides a single location to store all your work files as well as allowing you to access them from anywhere using a desktop or mobile device. During this training session, you will learn how to access Box and navigate through the web application. Plus, discover how to upload files and folders, create new files and folders, restore files and locate trash, search and use Box Edit.

Math Faculty Training – Math ReDesign

Math faculty will be working on developing material for the corequisite model and being introduced to the new EdReady software.

Online Bookstore Revealed

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is partnering with Akademos, Inc. to offer our students an online bookstore beginning April 1st. The online bookstore model will reduce the costs of textbooks and course materials as well as streamline processes in adopting and providing textbooks. During this training session, I will show you how to access and login to the site. Then, I will take you through the faculty view and finish with guiding you through the student view as I demonstrate the student’s shopping experience.

Program Marketing & Recruiting

Marketing and recruiting for higher education has changed dramatically over the last few years across the country and here at Rowan-Cabarrus. Join us for an informative session on what the College is doing, what you can do to promote your program or courses, and how to get assistance from the College to do so. We will cover processes for getting customized marketing materials, photography, and more.

Additionally, several programs have mastered the art of promoting their programs. Those program chairs will present with us to show you the things that they do to help market their program. They have several different presentations and interactive activities that they use depending on the audience and whether the event is off-campus or on-campus. Come hear from them and how they have been successful!

Programs of Study and Scheduling

Christina Dryman and Lynne Fogner will be presenting recent changes and updates to the programs of study and scheduling processes. The changes cover programs of study, courses, scheduling, and catalog and include submission processes, timelines, proofing expectations, etc.

Protect Personal Information: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

Prepare for an informative learning experience as we guide you through the steps to follow in regards to protecting personal information. Learn everything from how to protect personal information of students, employees and corporate customers to how to share and store that information. Unveil the information you are protecting, where personal information is found, RCCC’ s policy, how to report findings, processes that have been implemented to assist you in keeping your data safe and secure, resources that are available to you and much more.

RCCC Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Updates & Information

The QEP Team will conduct a session highlighting the successes and growth of the QEP since Summer of 2017.

The Office Hour Initiative: an Overview of ENG & MAT’s Success in 2017-2018

In fall 2017, the departments of English and Math implemented the Office Hour Initiative (OHI). Through this initiative, students are encouraged to reach out to their instructors when life gets in the way or they find themselves struggling. If students do not reach out, faculty step in, encouraging students to schedule an ‘office hour’ with them in order to get students back on track. Learn more about the initiative and its success by attending this session.

The The Perks of Being an Experienced Box User

Get ready as I provide you with valuable insight into using the advanced features of Box including the Box add-in applications. We will take a look at the Box web interface, then tackle Box for Office, Box Sync, Box Drive and Box Note. We will examine how to securely share files and folders, collaborate seamlessly with co-workers and individuals outside the college, eliminate long email chains and uncover the ability to mirror the data stored on Box to your desktop without using a web browser.

Things you should know about the English and Math ReDesign

Developmental English and Math are ReDesigning again, per the state. English is part of the official pilot, while math is a cohort. Developmental studies are changing and a new corequisite model will begin Fall 2018.

Learn the basics of Title IX: the history, what is covered by the law, and why it’s necessary.

Tutor.com Faculty Client Portal and Product Roadmap

Danny Clark from Tutor.com will be presenting on different aspects of the online tutoring platform at Tutor.com, including showing faculty how to access the new client portal in Blackboard. Danny will lead faculty in navigating the resources the portal has to offer, such as early alerts, what topics are being requested, and how to access tutoring session transcripts. He will also review recent developments in 2017 and highlight upcoming product features and service enhancements for online tutoring.
