Creative Currents: A Celebration of North Indian Classical Music
Join us for an enchanting evening as we continue our Creative Currents arts and cultural series at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. This third installment invites you to immerse yourself in the soul-stirring rhythms and melodies of North Indian culture.
5-5:45 p.m. | Interactive Masterclass
This session is a unique opportunity for students and local musicians to engage directly with the artists. Attendees can ask questions, participate in a dialogue about the craft, and get an up-close view of the traditional instruments used in Indian classical music.
5:45-6 p.m. | Intermission
A brief break before the main performance begins.
6-7:30 p.m. | Musical Performance & Film Screening
The evening performance kicks off with a screening of a short documentary produced by the North Carolina Arts Council, highlighting the life and work of Gaurang Doshi. We are honored to welcome Gaurang Doshi, a distinguished classical musician and educator. He teaches at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and is the recipient of the prestigious 2025 NC Heritage Award. For Gaurang, music is more than entertainment; it is a “bridge between the human and the divine.”
This performance showcases the rich cultural depth of the Indian classical tradition. Gaurang will be joined on stage by:
Dr. Anusha Doshi: Gaurang’s daughter, continuing a melodic family legacy that Gaurang himself inherited from his father, Pandit Laxmikant Doshi
Haimanand Lutchmida: A talented Tabla player providing the intricate rhythmic heartbeat that is “integral” to this musical form.
In a special segment, Gaurang has invited his students to perform, reflecting his belief that the most important thing a student can do is “pass along that which he or she has learned.”
Location: Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, North Campus
