What is ECOprint?

ECOprint is a print management system that provides a secure, managed, eco-friendly printing environment for everyone at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

How does it work?

There are two types of print queues available with ECOprint, held and direct. A held queue uses a feature called Secure Release where a direct queue will bypass the Secure Release feature and immediately produce a print out. Print jobs submitted to a secure queue are held, up to 48 hours, until their owners release them from the print device or release station. Documents can be retrieved from a secure queue by swiping your Rowan-Cabarrus ID card or by manually entering your Rowan-Cabarrus network username and password. (Example: Student, James Stephanopolis, with Student ID# 9887654 has the username stephanopo.j.87654)

Direct printing

Classroom computers will print directly to the printer physically located within the classroom. ECOprint automatically prints multiple page documents double-sided to help reduce the amount of paper used. Documents can be printed single-sided, however, the credits required to print your documents job will increase due to the amount of paper and ink being used. Rowan-Cabarrus strongly encourages everyone to print documents double-sided in an effort to reduce our impact on the environment. Rowan-Cabarrus classroom printers are not color capable devices.

Secure printing

Secure printing provides everyone with security and flexibility by enabling them to submit a print job to a secure queue and release the document(s) at their convenience, within 48 hours. Once a print job is submitted to a secure queue, you must enter your ECOprint credentials to receive your printouts. ECOprint credentials can be presented in several ways; by manually entering your username and password via the multifunction printer’s touchscreen keyboard or by swiping your student ID card. Secure printing is available from classroom computers.

How do I receive credits for my prints and copies?

Rowan-Cabarrus recognizes students need to print in order to complete academic course work. Accordingly, all students are given an allotment of credits for printing and copying each semester. ECOprint allotments are given on a pro-rata basis at the beginning of each semester; unused print credits do not carry over to the next semester. ECOprint allotments are funded through a small portion of the technology fee and are based on the number of credit hours for which a student is registered. The ECOprint allotments for curriculum students are:

  •  7+ credit hours:     30 credits
  • 1-6 credit hours:     15 credits

I ran out of credits, can I get more?

Students may request additional credits during the Fall 2013 semester by visiting the Learning Resource Center or Information Commons at North or South Campus.

Will I have to pay next semester (Spring 2014)?

Students will be required to pay for prints and copies above the given allotment beginning with the spring 2014 semester. Registered students will be able to add funds to the ECOprint accounts in $1.00 increments in the Learning Resource Centers (LRC) at North and South Campus. Registered students that do not wish to add funds to their ECOprint account will also have the option to pay for prints and copies on an as needed basis via cash payments in the LRC at North and South Campus.
