Leadership and Professional Development: As an officer, why is it important to understand leadership and the need for professional development? The answer is quite simple. You are the future leader of your agency. Not cut-out for the “Chief” slot? There are other places you are needed. Leadership can come from many different types of individuals. Skills, knowledge, and abilities are the foundation of the job, but the special traits you have can make you an effective and successful leader.
