At-Scene Traffic Crash Investigation

Course Goal: To enable participants to locate, identify, preserve, and evaluate evidence commonly found at the scene of traffic crashes.

Course Objectives:

  1. Locate and identify evidence from the crash scene, vehicles, and the roadway
  2. Preserve and process that evidence using the following methods:
    • Field sketches
    • Triangulation/Baseline
    • Measurement data sheets
    • Photographs
  3. Organize collected evidence for the case file and class presentation
  4. Perform a variety of mathematical formulas, including:
    • Speed
    • Velocity
    • Time
    • Distance

Course Requirements: Attendance is expected at all course sessions and satisfactory completion of practical exercises must be accomplished.  A minimum, or higher, course score is required to earn a certificate of completion.
