SUMMARY:Investigative Discourse Analysis (Level 1)
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: The systematic analysis of written discourse (statements\, transcripts\, letters\, etc.) can indicate the truthfulness of the individual\, as well as identify the critical areas of the case that require further inquiry or investigation. Often\, written discourse relevant to an inquiry is only seen as a piece of paper to be filed. It is thought to be only useful at face value – as a record\, sworn statement\, or archive. In Investigative Discourse Analysis the participant learns how these documents can be put to work as inquiry-related decision-making tools and indicators of deception that can serve to carry the inquiry to conclusion. Within the program\, all concepts presented will allow for the participants to “do” in order to enhance the learning experience. Actual statements\, transcripts\, and letters will be utilized\, analyzed\, and expanded. The hands-on method is designed to address each succeeding objective before continuing to the next. The course involves the presentation and application of information related to the analysis process of statements\, transcripts\, or other textual documentation related to an investigation. This course is designed for patrolmen\, detectives\, school resource officers\, and SWAT operators. SUMMARY:Executing Search Warrants
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: Description: Law enforcement has seen a dramatic shift in the public’s attitude towards law enforcement\, as well as a shift in the attitude towards drugs in general. This course discusses the shift in society’s view of law enforcement and drugs in general\, discusses the changes in some departments administrative view on search warrants and investigating drug cases\, and the need to protect yourself and the citizens\, while executing search warrants. Officers are taking an inherent risk to themselves each time they write and/or execute a search warrant. Officers should be aware and keep in mind the looming changes from the Police Reform Act\, changes in legislation in regards to search warrants and the possible changes in qualified immunity. This course will instruct officers on the importance to write complete and successful search warrants. DESCRIPTION:Course Description: This course examines those individuals who communicate threats or other “unusual” communications to others\, specifically in the school environment. This includes the identification of the offender\, motivation\, evidence of mental illness\, and threat management. This course emphasizes distinguishing between those who make threats and those who pose threats. This course includes specific case studies such as stalking/threatening political and media persons\, mentally ill threateners and anti-government “true believers.” What causes a\, “normal” teen to become a mass murder? Can they be predicted and prevented? This course examines\, the various theories of the cause of school shooters\, warning signs\, assessment and intervention techniques. SUMMARY:Advanced Tactical Ballistic Shield
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: Advanced Ballistic Shield Operator – This course builds on the basic operator’s class and is designed to assist the operator in handling the ballistic shield in different situations. The operator will be able to shoot from behind the shield aggressively. Conduct a reload with and without the gas mask. The operator will also unload\, shoot on the move\, conduct down officer rescues\, and operate the shield during dynamic/static room clears. The operator will conduct entries and dry and live-fire exercises in 2-man and 3-man evolutions\, with and without gas masks. There will be additional drills to help each operator become acclimated to the shield in various ways.
