American Heart Association HeartChase Event on Saturday

SALISBURY ONE OF ONLY 50 CITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY, TWO IN THE STATE, SELECTED TO HOST NEW INTERACTIVE FUNDRAISING EVENT

SALISBURY, N.C. — The American Heart Association’s HeartChase will be held this Saturday May 12, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the F&M Trolley Barn.

“It’s going to be a memorable event that will make giving back truly fun.”

Salisbury was selected by the American Heart Association as one of 50 cities in the U.S. to launch this new interactive fundraising event. This new program boasts a creative way to get involved downtown, have a good time and contribute to an important cause.

Registration for the event includes a home-cooked BBQ lunch, a dri-FIT event t-shirt, the chance to win awesome prizes and a donation to a great cause.

“HeartChase is sort of a cross between the Amazing Race and Minute-To-Win-It – the American Heart Association’s equivalent to Race for a Cure,” said Sandy Moore, Branch Manager of F&M’s Granite Quarry location, and co-chair of the Salisbury HeartChase committee. Teams of 2-5 people will race around downtown Salisbury competing in activities at “checkpoints” to earn points and win prizes. “Activities” will include anything from doing the limbo to riding a tricycle through a maze to guessing the number of calories in a donut.

Registration for team members is $25 for 18+ and $15 for under 18.

After the race, a home-cooked BBQ lunch will be provided during the awards ceremony (included in the entry fee), where teams will be awarded for most points, quickest finish and best team theme. Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses – everything from Salty Caper pizza, Meroney tickets and photography sessions.

Be it building a literal food pyramid, learning a quick exercise routine or finding things in the community that participants never knew existed, HeartChase is guaranteed to be a lot of fun for all involved.

Rowan Regional Medical Center is the lead sponsor for the event, with F&M Bank and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College taking on the roles of presenting sponsors. Additional checkpoint sponsors include Chick-Fil-A, Johnson Concrete, Tilley Harley-Davidson, and Caniche.

The planning committee is still accepting last-minute sponsors and contributions for the event and these inquiries can be directed to Amy Smith at amy.smith@rowancountync.gov.
