ROWAN-CABARRUS PROGRAMS MEET HIGH STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY EXTERNAL ACCREDITING BODIES; NURSING PROGRAMS ACHIEVE SELECTIVE STATUS
CONCORD, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has been awarded accreditation for both of its nursing programs and its early childhood education program.
“Accreditation is an important part of our work here at Rowan-Cabarrus. It says that our programs meet high standards,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of the college.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recently certified the college’s early childhood education Associate in Applied Science degree program.
According to the accrediting report, “students have many meaningful learning opportunities to develop knowledge and skills relative to each NAEYC standard.”
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. is the college’s accrediting body for its nursing programs. The college’s Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) program has been re-accredited for eight years and the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program has received initial accreditation for five years. The ADN program is one of only 14 programs among the 58 community colleges in North Carolina that is nationally accredited.
This is the first time the college has sought accreditation for the LPN program, making it the second program across the entire state – out of 48 other LPN programs – to receive this accreditation.
“I’m so proud of both our nursing and early childhood education programs,” said Spalding. “They’ve shown leadership and dedication to the constant improvement that we strongly encourage here at Rowan-Cabarrus.”
Rowan-Cabarrus offers multiple nursing programs options, including associate degree in nursing (ADN), practical nursing (LPN) and the LPN to ADN transition option. Rowan-Cabarrus also offers several options in early childhood education including a transfer program for those seeking a four-year degree, an Early Childhood Administrator’s Advanced certificate, a Child Care Specialist certificate, a diploma, and an Associate in Applied Science degree.
“The Board of Trustees is extremely proud of these programs and their display of excellence,” said Carl M. Short, chair of the Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees. “Accreditation in these areas shows employers that the training our graduates receive is of the highest caliber. It’s truly first-rate training here at Rowan-Cabarrus.”
