A Rowan County resident with a background in local government and a lifelong passion for helping people grow, Susan Nunn has spent her career developing others. Today, as the founder of Performance Potential Uncorked, she’s building something of her own – one workshop, one client and one conversation at a time.

“I always had it in the back of my mind that I would love to facilitate, coach or consult in the people development and human resources field,” Susan shared. Right after high school, Susan entered the Army, met her husband and started her family. It wasn’t until she was able to go back to school and work in local government that she found her passion in human resources, with a strong affinity for the areas of leadership and people-centered training.

When she retired from local government, Susan decided to use that new chapter purposefully. “I saw it as time to pilot different opportunities in the coaching and facilitation space,” she said. That’s when she started engaging with support from the Rowan-Cabarrus Small Business Center (SBC), launched her LLC and began picking up project work – partnering with others, leading workshops and building a steady stream of HR consulting and training engagements.

She connected with Meg, the SBC Director, early on to help guide her new venture. In fact, before officially launching her business, Susan had already been providing expertise by leading supervisor training courses and coaching sessions for the SBC’s clients. “Meg asked me to support small businesses that needed HR help,” she said.

Now, Susan’s LLC provides a mix of HR consulting and people development services, from one-on-one coaching and DiSC assessments to workshops on leadership, compliance and employee relations. She’s particularly energized by working with mid-size and smaller businesses who are looking for structure, strategy and support in their workplace operations.

Her growth has been steady and organic – mostly through referrals and her existing network. And while she hasn’t formally launched a logo or website yet, her calendar is steady. “I’ve learned what I can do. Now I’m figuring out exactly what I want to do,” she said with a smile.

As she builds, she continues to lean on the resources of the Small Business Center, working with Meg and attending online trainings to sharpen her knowledge and stay connected. A session on copyrights and trademarks especially stood out. “It was incredibly helpful and something I might not have otherwise taken the time to dig into,” she said.

Her coaching practice is something she’s excited to expand. “I really enjoy one-on-one coaching. When someone realizes how much they needed the skills they just learned, and they give that positive feedback – it’s really rewarding,” she said.

For Susan, the work isn’t only about compliance or policies. It’s about helping businesses and people thrive in a workplace where structure meets heart. With her years of HR leadership, a strong sense of service and a calm, approachable presence, she’s become a trusted advisor to organizations across the region. “I love structure and organization, but I also love helping people find their footing. That’s where I feel like I make a real impact,” she said.

As her business continues to evolve, one thing is clear: Susan brings a deep well of experience – and a whole lot of heart – to every organization she serves.
