Student Leadership Development Program (NCCCS-SLDP)
Out Of 900,000 students, only 28 students were chosen to attend the Student Leadership Development Program and I was honored to be chosen as one of those 28 students. Michael Maffei, past Academic Senator was also selected. The retreat was held at William Peace University in Raleigh June 3- 8th, 2012. It was an awesome experience! I enjoyed networking with other students as well as learning a lot about leadership. The program requires all participants to do Campus/Community Workshops. Successful program participants graduate in March, 2013.
One of the goals for 2012-13 is to encourage more student involvement in campus activities as well as in the community. Please get involved in Service Learning (ask your instructors).
Summer Senate Day
Summer Senate Day was a huge success. We discussed the duties and roles of the club senator. Also, the senators got a chance to have a look at the proposed budget for the 2012-2013 academic year and at the Club Travel Grant Tier system.
Encourage Participation- Welcome Back Bash
I strongly encourage every club to participate in the Welcome Back Bash- August 15 & 16. This is a club sponsored event, and we need clubs to commit.
There is no unfinished business.
First Review of the 2012-2013 Student Life Budget.
During the meeting, the proposed 2012-2013 Student Life Budget was presented to the Senators. A motion was brought forth by Michael Maffei of RC^3 Electronics to accept the proposed budget, and was seconded by Jericho Jackson of M.I.S.T.E.R. There were 13 for, 0 against, and 1 abstained. The second reading of the budget will be conducted on September 4, 2012, and the final vote will be conducted on October 2, 2012.
Club Travel Grant Revision (Tiered System).
The Tiered Funding Structure proposal was made at the meeting with a projected budget impact of $69,000. A motion was brought forth by Jennifer Wagner of PBL to “amend the tier proposal so that each club’s governing body and advisor have discretion for how the tier funds are spent for state and national travel.” The motion was seconded by Susan Hepler of AHR. The vote was 14 for, 0 against, 0 abstain. Motion passed.
