The resignation of the Parliamentarian

  • The Student Government Association has received the resignation of Moises Garcia as Parliamentarian. In his letter of resignation he thanked the SGA and Advisers for the experience and spoke about all the things he has learned. This position will be open and voted upon at the January 12 SGA business meeting.

We have been doing well with senate attendance, but please remember that those who have missed two consecutive meeting will be put on probation, which means that they will not be eligible to fundraise and travel.

Public Information Officer South Campus-Roa Y Saleh

  • Being one of the chosen selected for The National Conference on Student Leadership (NCSL) held in Washington DC was very eye-opening. At NCSL, I was surrounded by university and community college student leaders with the same goal which is to make an impact on other student’s lives within their campuses, as well as outside and within their community. There were a variety of workshops available for student leaders that provided the steps needed in order to accomplish those goals. I witnessed the level of enthusiasm and energy each student brought to those workshops. One of the influential speakers that changed my perspective on leadership and empowered me as student leader, was James Edward Mills. James is journalist and media producer. He came from a very hard working family that strived for success and change within the United States. His father was the first African American to graduate from law school who was recognized by Martin Luther King Jr. In fact, James’s father advised Martin Luther king on major issues within the country as a successful lawyer. In one of his workshops, James spoke about how leadership is built upon loyalty, love, and passion. If a person follows their heart and zeal, success will eventually begin to follow and progress along the way. It is there that I learned from Mr. Mills that no amount of money can guarantee a person’s happiness. James combined both his profession, talents, and leadership into one purpose, and that is making the world a better place to all people. In conclusion, I came to a realization that the process of leadership is defined upon making a difference in other people’s lives, behaviors, and institutions.
