Here is a full listing of our summer camp programs. Summer camps are also listed on the registration website. There you are able to register and pay, using a credit card or “bill me” option. Early bird, multiple camp & sibling discounts available! Registration will not be available until February 1, 2020.

 

Summer Camps 2020

Drums 4 Life: African Drum Class

Got rhythm? Drums 4 Life, taught by Kojo Bey, will immerse you into an experience in djembe orchestra instruments with instructions in drumming technique and instrument identification. This ancient art form has been known to bring healing to audiences and participants alike. It is both fun and challenging at the same time. You will learn about the many uses of the West African drums, dance movements, the history, songs, storytelling, repertoire, choreography, costuming and cultural lessons. Overall, Drums 4 Life drum class will stimulate and challenge the spirit, mind and body.

Young Composers & Music Makers

  • Open to ages 11 – 18 with basic music fundamentals such as band or piano lessons

Calling all song-writers! Electronic music notation is the mainstream way to create and share music in the 21st century. In this camp, you will learn the basic functions of inputting and exporting music into an electronic notation program. We take advantage of free, widely accessible software to equip those having basic music fundamentals with the skills, confidence, and inspiration to create original compositions and new music! You will also be exposed to ear training and basic music theory as you write your own unique instrumental song, which will be performed at the end of the week. Instruments and materials will be provided, and the performances will be recorded to keep and inspire future music making!

RCCC Welding Warriors: Where Welding is So Hot, It’s Cool!

Hot off the press! Welding is a high-demand, high paying career with opportunities in a diverse array of working environments! Join us for 5 jam-packed days of fun as you experience a completely hands-on summer enrichment program that teaches you the basics skills necessary for welding metals in a fully functioning welding lab! The goal of this summer program is to provide an opportunity for students to experience the art of welding as they use SMAW (STICK) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, oxy-acetylene torches and CNC Plasma machines to create a take-home project they will want to keep forever!

Sew Fun!

Learn to sew and tap into your creative potential this summer! If you are looking for a unique, creative, and skill-based camp experience – you’ve found it! Come have fun and engage in thought-provoking work as you create your own unique sewing projects. Camp includes a basic sewing machine tutorial, hand sewing skills, and customizable projects to take home and enjoy. We provide all supplies and equipment. Join us and enjoy the thrill of designing with your own hands, plus an added confidence of how to approach and accomplish any future project!

Have you ever thought about designing your own video game? Come experience a fun-filled camp and learn how to code and design your very own PC game! Students will acquire skills in Python and Java Script while also learning about 3D modeling tools. Watch as your characters come to life through animation and work through the obstacles you design! Build your game from the ground up and publish your final creation to share with friends and family. Teaching is based on North Carolina’s Career Tech Ed curriculum and resources provided by the NC State Moodle page.

Cybersecurity Kids

Are you an internet detective? The internet is full of bad guys trying to steal your data, steal your identity, and steal your money! The cybersecurity threat landscape is rapidly changing, and the need for highly-trained individuals is always growing. In this fun, creative, hands-on camp we will start with the basics of cybersecurity and experience the digital world as we explore online security, encryption, and stenography, just to name a few topics. We will also explore best practices to help keep us safe while online and have fun while doing it! A little computer knowledge is all you need to enter the world of cybersecurity and in the end, you will learn some skills that will make you a responsible cyber user!

Mad About Science STEM Camp

What is a STEM Camp? A STEM camp teaches core skills for future careers in science, technology, engineering and math in a fun and engaging summer setting. The activities provided will foster skills like problem-solving, creativity, collaboration and more.  Students will learn how the world works through various science experiments. This camp will feature various activities such as creating elephant toothpaste, crafting radioactive slime, launching bottle rockets, and seeing how the various states of matter change through the use of dry ice. Students are guaranteed to have a blast through this mad science!

Improv On The Go

Enjoy theatre, acting, comedy, improvisation, and drama? Come join the fun! You will study the fundamentals and concepts of improvisation through exercises that will help you develop a strong ensemble and character work. You will work on being creative, spontaneous, shedding nerves and anxiety, connecting with peers, being part of an audience, being brave, going with the flow, teamwork, quick thinking, and so many other important and fantastic skills. Our goal at Improv On The Go is to educate, entertain, and promote laughter…… “When in doubt, have fun.”

Introduction to Digital Photography

Do you love taking pictures, capturing that “perfect shot” in nature, of family, or of an important event? Do you have a camera and want to know how to use it successfully? Then this camp is for you! You will learn basic skills required to shoot and edit high quality images, and through a succession of fun projects, you will create both portraits and landscapes using your own camera. You must bring your choice of camera with storage card, batteries, USB cables, and manual.

Build-a-Bot Engineering & Design

Have you ever dreamed of building your own robot? Let’s do it together in this fun, creative, hands-on camp!  Experience the World of Design and Engineering as you learn about mechanics, hydraulics and building techniques to construct your very own fully working hydraulic desktop robot using common, easy to obtain materials! And the best part? At the end of the camp, the robot will be yours to take home! Come join us for a fun, totally hands-on challenge.

Introduction to UX Design & Web Development

Jump into the Wide World of Web Design! In a world where nearly every company conducts business online, the opportunities for web developers abound! But it is an ultra-competitive career, so get a jump start early on a career in UX design & Web Development. We start the camp with the fundamentals of ‘design thinking’ & leverage the tools of ‘UX’ Design, such as Adobe CC & Sketch. Finally, we jump head first into the essential front-end technologies of html5, css3, & JavaScript, the essential skills web developers need to succeed. So join us and get direct exposure to how the pros create & engineer digital products!!!!

Game Makers

Have you ever wanted to see one of your drawings come to life? Can you imagine one of your favorite characters becoming a part of a video game? Come to Game Makers to create your own virtual world. Let your imagination run wild. This camp will provide lessons in 3D modeling and manipulation and students will be able to save and keep their final game to share with friends and family! This is a great beginner’s course based on North Carolina’s Career Tech Ed curriculum and resources provided by the NC State Moodle page.

Loco Robo Drones

Calling all drone enthusiasts: Explore real-world coding and robotics through modern, aerial technology. Take to the skies and become an honorary junior drone pilot! The Loco Robo Drone is the perfect mix of STEM and Computer Science. Loco Robo Drones are part of a select group that uses gyroscopic technology. Use the motion of your body to guide the drone through obstacles to your target! Learn to code drones using Java Script and the Loco Robo remote control. Gain hands-on experience seeing how the code directly relates to everything the drone does!

American Sign Language for Ages 10 and Under

Want to learn a new language? What about sign language?  Come and join us for this fun week-long summer camp learning American Sign Language!  Your child will learn the alapabet, fingerspelling, numbers and more vocabulary.  Your child will also learn use of facial expressions when communicating in sign language.  We will also practice fingerspelling, working to incorporate some signs into basic everyday use sentences and a lot of activities/games to learn how to sign words.  Your child will also be learning basic information about Deaf Culture and the norms.  Your child will finish the week being able to carry on basic communication skills in signing to people who are signing users. So what are you waiting for?
