Summer Camps 2024

Quilting

June 3 – 7, 2024
Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Ages 12 to 18
North Campus – Building: N101    Room: 127

Camp Description: The American tradition of quilting is interwoven with many personal stories. If you are curious about the role of quilts in history, this course is for you. Discover details that tell us about history in creative ways. Create quilt blocks that were used in communicating travel directions showing slaves the route to freedom during the time of the Underground Railroad.

Rowan-Cabarrus Welding Warriors:
Where Welding is So Hot, It’s Cool!

June 10 – 14, 2024

Open to rising 9th – 12th grade students.

Welding is a high-demand, high-paying career with opportunities in a diverse array of working environments! Join us for 5 jam-packed days of fun as you experience a completely hands-on summer enrichment program that teaches you the basics skills necessary for welding metals in a fully functioning welding lab! The goal of this summer program is to provide an opportunity for students to experience the art of welding as they use SMAW (STICK) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, oxy-acetylene torches, and CNC Plasma machines to create a take-home project they will want to keep forever!

Crocheting

June 10 – 14, 2024

Camp Description: Crocheting is a fun and easy way to create anything from little gifts to something unique to wear. From stuffed animals or dolls to blankets, potholders, sweaters, skirts or pants, you can individualize your collection. All you need is some yarn and the appropriate size hook and you are ready to design a beautiful piece. You will learn the basic stitches (and more challenging ones if time allows) and can make something little or big, in one piece or with Granny squares.

Fashion Design & Sewing Camp

June 17 – 21, 2024

Camp Description: Learn to sew and tap into your creative potential this summer! If you are looking for a unique, creative, and skill-based experience – you’ve found it! From fiber to yarn to fabric, from 2D fabric to 3D clothing, you will learn about this history of fashion, garment design and pattern construction. You will choose a pattern, cut out the pieces, and sew the details. Then choose notions, embellishments and finishings to create your own design for a fashion show on the final day.

Improv on the Go

June 17 – 21, 2024

Camp Description:  Want to improve your listening skills, boost confidence, collaborate better and have fun? Improv shapes students’ minds to think on their feet and form creative ideas on the spot. Students will learn a sense of humor about the world that can benefit them in social and learning environments. Students will work on being creative, spontaneous, shedding nerves and anxiety, connecting with peers, being part of an audience, being brave, going with the flow, teamwork, quick thinking, and so many other important and fantastic skills. Through it all, students will see their self-confidence increase while exploring their creativity and how group trust and teamwork make for an amazing and hilarious improv camp. Our goal at Improv on The Go is to educate, entertain, and promote laughter… “When in doubt, have fun.”

The Game of Bridge

June 24-28, 2024

Ages: rising 7th graders to 12th graders

Camp Description: The game of Bridge:  Learn the card game that has fascinated and challenged puzzle-solvers and has brought friends together for over 100 years. Play at home, in a local club, or in regional tournaments. For many, bridge has been a life-long passion, because the game never gets stale. Although you can achieve a general competence in a few hours, there is always more that you can learn.

Drone Technology

June 24 – 28, 2024
Mon-Fri, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Ages: 8 to 12
North Campus – Building: N101 Room: 127

Camp Description: Discover the physics of flight and learn about drone technology in a fun way. Career fields involving drones are predicted to grow tenfold by the end of the decade. Use this fun opportunity to practice your flying skills by creating mock missions and programming drones to complete the missions autonomously. During the camp, you will earn The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) required by the FAA for flying your own drones.

Knitting

July 8-12, 2024
Mon- Fri, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Ages: 12 to 18
South Campus – Building: S203    Room: 207

Camp Description: Learn how to use knitting techniques to make beautiful creations to wear. From light cotton shirts for the beach to woolen scarves and toboggans for the coming winter, you can create your own with beautiful yarn and the appropriately sized knitting needles. Knitting does require a little patience, but it is so rewarding to wear or use the finished projects.
