The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Testing Centers have joined forces with the DSST™ Program to provide you with a cost effective, time saving way to use your experience, skills and knowledge gained outside of the conventional classroom to achieve your educational goals and objectives.
Purpose of DSST™
The DSST is a useful and efficient way to provide your institution with proof of prior learning. Whether you are a new or existing student, you will find there are many advantages to taking the DSST, including:
• Speed up your path to obtaining your degree or certificate
• Earn college credit for what you already know
• Save on tuition dollars
• Test out of introductory courses
According to DSST, there are other reasons why you should consider taking a DSST exam:
• DSST Exams are exams approved for college and university credit
• There are over 30 exams to choose from in upper and lower level credits
• DSST complements and can be used in conjunction with CLEP
• The DSST program is funded for military active duty and spouses
Cost for Taking the DSST™
- Cost Per Exam (Paid Online @ Time of Exam): $80.00
- Proctoring Fee: $10.00 for RCCC students; $20.00 for all others.
- Total Cost: $90.00 for RCCC students; $100.00 for all others.
As you prepare for your DSST Exams, it is strongly suggested that you visit the DSST website: http://getcollegecredit.com/test_takers. On this website, you will have access to exam fact sheets, practice tests, and other information needed for taking the exam.
Finding Out Your College’s DSST™ Policy
Once you have chosen the exams you would like to take, you will need to contact your college’s admissions office to find out their DSST policy. They will be able to provide you information on what DSST exams they accept, as well as the number of credit hours they will award.
Rowan-Cabarrus does offer course credit for many of the DSST exams. If you are taking a DSST exam for credit for a course at Rowan-Cabarrus, the school code is 8132. You will need to enter that number in your registration information when you begin your testing appointment.
