DSST™ Program

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Testing Centers have joined forces with the DSST™ Program to provide you with a cost effective, time saving way to use your experience, skills and knowledge gained outside of the conventional classroom to achieve your educational goals and objectives.

Purpose of DSST™

The DSST is a useful and efficient way to provide your institution with proof of prior learning. Whether you are a new or existing student, you will find there are many advantages to taking the DSST, including:

• Speed up your path to obtaining your degree or certificate
• Earn college credit for what you already know
• Save on tuition dollars
• Test out of introductory courses

According to DSST, there are other reasons why you should consider taking a DSST exam:

• DSST Exams are exams approved for college and university credit
• There are 38 subjects to choose from
• DSST complements and can be used in conjunction with CLEP
• The DSST program is funded for military active duty and spouses

Scheduling Your DSST™ Exam

DSST testing is by appointment only. Thus, you will need to schedule your DSSTTM exam through the RCCC Test Reservation web page.

Cost for Taking the DSST™

  • Cost Per Exam (Paid Online @ Time of Exam): $80.00
  • Proctoring Fee: $10.00 for RCCC students; $20.00 for all others.
  • Total Cost: $90.00 for RCCC students; $100.00 for all others.

As you prepare for your DSST Exams, it is strongly suggested that you visit the DSST website: http://getcollegecredit.com/test_takers. On this website, you will have access to an information bulletin, and free practice tests.

Finding Out Your College’s DSST™ Policy

Once you have chosen the exams you would like to take, you will need to contact your college’s admissions office to find out their DSST policy. They will be able to provide you information on what DSST exams they accept, as well as credit they will award.
