A native North Carolinian of 28 years, Nicholas Brown was born into a long line of Marines at Cherry Point, NC. After 12 years of happiness, he was moved to Charlotte, where he became cynical and jaded. Fearing for his future, he enlisted himself into the Army at the age of 18. Unfortunately, he was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC and continuing his trend of never leaving this state. After five years of service and two trips to the desert, he was honorably discharged and became a full-time student. In NC.
Benjamin Cable lives in Kannapolis, NC. He was home-schooled until he began attending RCCC in August 2009. He is a full-time student working to obtain an Associate in Arts degree and plans on later transferring to a four year institution in order to acquire his Bachelors degree. His dream job is to work as a concept artist for a major video game company. His greatest inspiration for writing and pursuing a career in the art field is J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings”. These books and their film adaptations are his favorite literary and cinematic works. In his free time, he enjoys drawing, painting, carpentry, writing, cooking, and playing Lord of the Rings Online. He enjoys life as a student at RCCC and the new skills and responsibilities that come with it.
Tiffany Delk went to Northwest Cabarrus High School and graduated in 2009, Currently she is in her second year of college at RCCC. She volunteers at the Senior Center in Kings Mountain and the Salvation Army in Concord. She also helps at her mother’s EC class for the Kannapolis City Schools, working with three, four and five year olds. She plans to transfer to another college and get her teaching degree in Elementary Education.
Skyla Brittany Dover, born on October 25, 1989 in Anniston, Alabama; where she went to Alexandria High School and graduated with an honors diploma. In 2008 she received an NCA All America cheerleading award in Auburn, Alabama. After that she went to Shelton State where she found a passion for arts. Then she transferred to Gadsden State to pursue her degree. Recently she moved to North Carolina and attends RCCC to major in psychology and now minor in arts. She will transfer once more to a four year college and will graduate, with a bachelors in psychology.
Aaron Fountain was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1988. His family only stayed there for a short period before moving to Hanau, Germany where he stayed for several years of his early childhood. He was into creative outlets from an early age, always destroying his parents magazines and boxes in order to tape them together to make some new toy.
Some of his favorite books include; Flowers for Algernon, Survivor, Lord of the Flies, The Great Gatsby, Brave New World, and Lullaby. Aaron’s favored subjects have always been in the realm of science and technology, surrealism, and fantasy. Some of his favorite poets include Saul Williams and Andrea Gibson. He finds inspiration from fantasy, scientific theory, and music.
Joshua Hays is young man who was born in Tampa Florida and raised early on in Leesburg Virginia. In spite of this he still calls Concord NC home, as he feels this is where he belongs. He has been many places and done many things. He has met many people and forgotten many more. He is very smart and yet very stupid. And now he is done talking about himself so stop being nosey.
Julie Holder was born in Hamlet, N.C. in 1971 to Billy and Anna Sweatt. She is the wife of Michael Holder, mother of John and Cierra Harden, and step-mother to Shane and Ashley Holder. Growing up Julie always had a passion for her religion, the written word, art and music. She is currently enrolled as a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in the Associate in Arts program. She intends to transfer into UNC Charlotte or UNC Pembroke where she will work to receive her Bachelor’s degree in English in hopes of becoming a book editor.
Tena Pair is married and lives in Concord, NC with her husband. She enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends and she loves animals. Tena is currently working on Criminal Justice, Cybercrime and Associate of Arts degrees and will be transferring to UNC Charlotte in 2011 to major in English in hopes of teaching at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in the future.
She enjoys writing and reading various types of poetry and fiction. Her favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe. Tena works part time at RCCC’s Writing Center assisting student’s with papers and English assignments. Tena is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and also received the Margaret Woodson Scholarship for the 2010-2011academic years at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Aaron Webner is a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in the Associate’s in Fine Arts program. Once he is finished with his degree, he plans on working as a tattoo artist. Since his childhood, art has always been a strong passion for him. In his early teens, he started getting involved in music and writing lyrics for the music he wrote. That passion has now turned into an aspiration and he plans to further his talent with his current band Gentlemen of Fortune and continuing his writing in both the music and lyrics.
