Knife Defense Class

The Knife is a formidable weapon, as well as a versatile weapon. It may be used to cut, slash or stab. A trained Officer that is proficient in defending the knife is better able to protect himself/herself during an arrest situation. The main purpose of this training is to teach the officer to deal with a knife threat if the subject is to close to safely deploy a firearm or other means to defend oneself.  At the end of this block of instruction, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with information received in this class.​

  1. Discuss the use of force authorized during an arrest situation as described in North Carolina General Statute, 15a-401.
  2. Discuss the different type of knife configurations.
  3. Discuss the different type of knife grips /hand positions.
  4. Discuss the “Safe Distance Scenario” when dealing with a knife attack.
  5. Demonstrate the proper stance and hand positions when defending the knife attack.
  6. Discuss the most common types of knife attacks.
  7. Demonstrate the blocks use to defend the most common knife attacks.
  8. Demonstrate the wristlocks used to control the attacker.
  9. Demonstrate the proper procedures for safely removing the knife from the attackers hand.
