Technical Standards for Digital Content Compliance

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is committed to providing students, faculty and staff with access to the technology and information they need to succeed in and out of the classroom, and that these resources are accessible in accordance with applicable law. In light of this purpose, the below statement regarding technical standards for digital content and online compliance has been adopted to establish our obligation to compliance. Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, in its commitment to provide accessible and usable web content to everyone, regardless of ability, has adopted the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at Conformance Level AA as its official technical standards. The College strives to employ accessible and responsive design principles when creating or purchasing web technology by adhering to federal guidelines, statutes, and laws, as well as current WCAG standards. All official college web technologies must be accessible according to established college policy, procedures, and standards. The College’s Web and Electronic Resources Accessibility Committee (WERAC), in collaboration with Distance Education and Academic Programs, have created processes for which all online learning platforms and digital learning tools will be reviewed for accessibility compliance consistent with the above mentioned standards; all platforms and tools must meet these standards before it will be procured by the College. For specifics on the standards, please visit the W3 website to review the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
