Purpose

The current social and political moment in our society calls for higher education to be better equipped to address and redress historical racial inequities. Highly publicized events during 2022-2023, including a pandemic, have brought attention to long-standing structural inequalities that determine different life outcomes for different social groups. Institutions of higher education have the responsibility to model values of inclusion and equity. Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Guide to Belonging Virtual Conference seeks to create a learning space for professionals in educational institutions and community-based organizations to celebrate achievements, be inspired by best practices, and learn how to drive change in their home institutions/organizations. The conference brings together speakers with different areas of expertise. You will learn about equity issues in schools, communities, and the workplace and have an opportunity to network and share best practices so that you will have your guide for success!

Our Goal

The conference aims to advance the issues in Higher Ed, K-12 schools, communities, and workplace industries by building community and competency among all levels of employees and will cover the subjects such as:

Implicit Bias; Norms/Discomfort in D.E.I. conversations; Strategies and Potential trends with African American males in Higher Ed; Breaking down Barriers Present Day; and Gender Identity; equity and engagement; L.G.B.T.Q.I.A. and more.
