Checkout a Living Book

February 14, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Living Library

The Rowan-Cabarrus Library is hosting a Living Library on North Campus on February 14, 2023, and South Campus on March 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event aims to combat prejudice by giving people a chance to connect with someone they may have never had a chance to speak with otherwise. This is achieved by creating a safe space for dialogue between Living Books (volunteers) who have a story to tell about their identity and Readers (event attendees). Living Books are “checked out” for short, one-on-one conversations allowing for authenticity and connection. Readers have the unique opportunity to ask questions and interact with their Living Book.

Some examples of Living Books that will be available for checkout include:

  • Coping with Grief: Surviving the loss of a Child
  • Not, I am not Hispanic, Peruvian, female, a mother, or a teacher. I am ‘me’.
  • What even are pronouns?
  • Living with Chronic Illness
  • The Diary of a Black Woman
