Proposal to adjust the number of active members required for Tier 1 of Travel Grant.

  • Current Structure- (Tier 1- $5,000= 40 active members/ Tier 2- $2,500= 20 active members/Tier 3-$1,500= 10 active members).
        • Roa Saleh asked if any clubs had taken advantage of the top tier. Natasha Lipscomb replied that, as of March 1, 2016, 3 clubs have taken advantage of the top tier.
        • Ryan Helm asked what the total amount that was available. Natasha Lipscomb responded that there was $22,000 total available to be used by all the clubs.
        • Emily Faust asked what this money covered. Natasha Lipscomb responded that is covered travel and lodging expenses only.
  • Brittany Martin move to change the number of members for the tier 1 from 40 to 35 active members and leave the lower tiers the same. Seconded By Emily Faust. There was a point of information from South Campus- the student senate member asked why this wouldn’t affect all the other tiers (clubs with less than 40 members)? It was noted that the adjustment could include the other clubs as well.
  • I, Erica Lettice, move to table the motion until more information could be gathered on how many clubs had taken advantage of the club travel grant and in which tiers. Seconded by Samantha Gomez. The motion to table passed.

AHR Chiller

Senator and Advisors attended the February Monthly SGA Business Meeting in the CBTC Distance Learning Center on Tuesday, 02 February. Chillers Club Executive committee met on Tuesday, 02 February for their monthly meeting to review upcoming items and set schedule for student meetings. Chillers Club students, along with lead advisor and assistant advisor, helped with the Heart Healthy Cooking Contest at South Campus lottery event held on Thursday, 18 February. One student member actually was a contestant in the contest and came in 2nd place. Students helped clean up after the event along with advisors and SGA staff. Chillers Club students, 13 total, participated in the Acts of Kindness lottery event at Cosmetology on Wednesday, 24 February. Most have submitted their e-forms already. It was a great time and we were received well and gave the Cosmetology students some good practice on men’s haircuts, manicures, pedicures, facials, back facials, & hair removal. It was interesting. Chillers Club student meetings were held during the week of 22 February through 27 February. Students voted on various items such as fundraising ideas and both community and campus service projects to do in March and April. Chillers club members participated in the AHR local SkillsUSA contests held on Saturday, 20 February. The result was 7 club members will be going to NC SkillsUSA conference contest in April. Greetings from L.I.F.T. (Living in Faith Today). We thank God that we were able to have our first meeting on January 21st. We also had a productive meeting on Tuesday, February 8th. We completed our events for February. We plan on having our next meeting March 15th. We are excited about spreading the gospel on campus and helping out students along with the Krispy Kreme fundraiser. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL)

Throughout the month of February, PBL has been busy with organizing an event to be held on North Campus. As a fundraiser, PBL will be hosting a gospel concert in the student center of North campus. The date of this event is March 17, 2016. PBL reached out to local churches and organizations in Rowan and surrounding counties to perform at the event. We accepted groups on a first come, first serve basis. Each performer will have anywhere from 40-45 minutes to perform. Local pastors and school officials will be speaking in between sets. PBL feels that this event is something that the community needs. While this does pose as a fundraiser, PBL’s mission for the event is to bring the community closer together in spite of the violence and mishaps that the United States is facing each and every day. Ticket prices are set at $5/person and will include refreshments to enjoy during the concert. PBL is also preparing for the state leadership conference in April. Students will attend workshops and compete in different events based upon interest and degrees.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

This month PTK has been very busy. We have participated in the Book Wrapping with the English Department on February 26. We are now checking off our requirements to be a five star chapter. We have currently met the requirement to have 40 active members. We are planning our trip to South Carolina to receive our much deserved awards for our HIA and college project. We are currently getting new members daily and are planning an induction ceremony this spring. On Monday two members completed our Acts of Kindness.

Prism

We have had our second meeting. After spring break we will start our campus service project. We want to help the custodial department with cleaning both North and South campuses. The materials will come from a donation from the custodians. After spring break we will also set up a table introducing PRISM to the student body. We may also do this regularly, like monthly, due to the low numbers of members in PRISM. We are looking forward to a productive spring semester.

Radiography

In February, our Rad club was very active in several events. We had 2 volunteers to do random acts of kindness around campus. We also participated in the Black History Month event as well as the Blood Drive on South Campus. All were very great experiences.

RCEC (Rowan Couny Early College)

Our club has completed two of our biggest events of the New Year. We purchased donuts and coffee from Krispy Kreme for our bus drives on Bus Driver Appreciation Day. In addition, we just completed our annual pasta for pennies fundraiser that went on for the entire duration of the month of February. We raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The total of how much we earned is currently unknown. Currently we are working on planning our spring dance, which will be held on April 1, 2016. The theme for the dance is “April Falls”.

Rotaract

During the month of February, Rotaract participated in Random Acts of Kindness on CBTC. Members passed out happy notes and stickers. Rotaract made a donation to Cabarrus County Rotary for Adopt-A-Soldier. In addition to other events, Rotaract had members swim and receive donations to help end Polio with the Rotarians of Cabarrus County. This month Rotaract will have its monthly club meeting on Friday, March 4 from 12-1 in rooms 251A on North and 2315 on South.

Student Nursing Association (SNA)

I, Matt Biles, was present for the SGA meeting March 1, 2016. Heard new business and voted on active motions. The SNA recently attended the NC Student Nursing Association convention in Raleigh, NC 26 members participated in the convention.

Veterans Club

We recently held a meeting on February 26 to discuss rescheduling of dinner since the movie we had planned to do the dinner around was no longer playing. The February 26 meeting had to be cut short due to the Executive Council Meeting. Currently we are planning out community project (BINGO night at the VA Hospital) and school project (PTSD Awareness). VETS also participated in the Job Fair in March.
