Reports

President’s Report
On October 23rd, I attended the N4CSGA Fall Conference. I took part in committee meetings, workshops, and the central division meeting. This was an excellent opportunity for students across the state to get together and discuss issues concerning their education.
On Monday, October 26th, I attended the monthly Board of Trustees meeting. They have approved the fall budget.

The Building and Grounds Committee continues to give updates on current construction projects on our campuses.

The Clery report was given, and the numbers have decreased.
On October 16th, we had our Fall Fest “Movies at Patterson Farms” event. We showed Hocus Pocus and gave out free pumpkins and popcorn. It was a success, and over 50 vehicles showed up. I want to thank Rachel and Bailey for their hard work during that event.
I was pleased to participate in the listening session with Vice President Natasha Lipscomb. Students could share their concerns regarding their academics and issues about their success during the pandemic.

As Covid19 continues to bring students challenges, the SGA Cares campaign has spent all but $800 of the $10,000 donated. Fifty-nine students have received financial help directly through the campaign that we all supported in the spring.

Eligible students should have received $250 in federal Cares money at the end of October.
Governor Cooper has created a program to assist individuals who may be experiencing possible eviction. The Housing Opportunity and Prevention of Evictions information and the application can be accessed at NC211.org/hope.
One of our SGA advisors, Ms. Shemeda Conyer, has taken a new position within the school as a career coach at A.L. Brown High School. I want the wish her the best of luck with her new journey.

Misty Moler, Director of the Wellness Center and Student Success, will be joining us at the December SGA meeting to talk about the TRIO Grant.

By the end of the month, we had collected 80 coats! This month’s focus was largely on planning future events that would help us engage with the student body in a virtual setting. We planned to pay homage to the faculty and staff of CKEC by having a Teacher Trivia game to test student knowledge of those who teach them. In addition to this, we held an art contest to showcase the talents of the students who are artsier. We also began discussing a pen pal system for students who would like to stay in contact with their peers in a safe, fun way.

“October 22, 2020 – Meeting was called to order via Zoom at 7:30. The special guest was Ashley Lay, entrepreneur and owner of Ashley Lay Realty with Keller Williams Elite in Winston Salem. Student members were interested in having a speaker talk about how COVID had changed the way they do business. Ashley discussed this in detail. She also discussed the importance of growing leadership skills as a student and at all levels of your career. She shared several books that she thought the students might find beneficial for their professional development. She then answered student questions. Members really enjoyed her presentation.
After Ms. Lay’s presentation, we conducted club business. This meeting had been previously scheduled for October 15th but had been rescheduled to accommodate our speaker. Because it was rescheduled, a vote was held via Blackboard survey to pay club funds into the National Office for the National and State portion of the annual dues paid in by students ($20 of $30 total goes to National/State Organization). Upcoming virtual NCPBL Fall Leadership Development Conference on November 13. The conference cost is free, but members need to notify advisor Pam Vest by October 31 if they want to attend so she can include them on the registration. The input was also requested for a fundraiser. Members chose to sell Scentsy. More information will be given in November meeting scheduled for November 19 at 7:30. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45.”
