Reports

President’s Report – Eva Nichols

Our SGA executive Board was to travel to our Central Division Meeting on September 22nd, but due to the damage some of the schools suffered because of hurricane Florence the event was cancelled.

The September 24th Board of Director’s meeting was also cancelled due to challenges with the hurricane.

I was appointed to The Teaching Excellence Committee to represent the student population. This committee works to provide students an opportunity to recognize the instructors they feel provides excellence and innovative education.

The college partnered with community agencies to offer an Opioid Seminar on north campus.

We are supporting a sister college at the coast with donations of food, cleaning supplies and school supplies to assist their students in moving forward after this disaster.

New Business

The motion was made by North Campus by, Larry White from SGA move that the Student Government is to make food and supplies donation in the amount of either $100, $150, $200 to the food Bana of central and eastern North Carolina located in Wilmington, NC by October 5, 2018 to aid with those hardest hit by hurricane Florence.

Club Reports

Academic Senator (Liberal Arts) – I’ve sent out emails to establish communication with the chairs of the liberal arts program. In doing this I was able to introduce myself to Mrs. Mahlere who has given me the chance to speak to her class and inform them about the Student Government Association.

AHR Chillers – Chillers club senator, Hunter Buckwell, attended the September SGA business meeting, as well as did the club Lead Advisor, Jon Crockett. Chillers Club’s Executive Committee met on Wednesday September 12th and student meetings held the following week. The club students voted to spend funds on a $250 Hole Sponsor for the 2018 Fall Golf Tournament held by the Southern Piedmont ASHRAE chapter of Charlotte. The college and A.C.E. Technologies Club will have a logo at the hole tee area as a sponsor.

Art Club – The meeting was called to order at 12:00pm on September 21, 2018. Joshua brewer nominated himself for president, Kaila Wacker nominated herself for vice president, Alona Smith nominated herself for secretary, Trish McCarty nominated herself for treasurer. The elections are to be held the week of October 1, last day for voting will be at our next club meeting which will be on October 5, 2018.

Cab Tech (Tab Tech Early College) – The Cab Tech SGA has been working on planning events for this year. We have decided on our Homecoming Dance theme and have started planning. We are excited to be hosting our annual LUAU on this campus this year and have started making plans to make the event a success. We have discussed attending the state convention. We have also joined with our Anchor Club to collect.

CKEC (Cabarrus/Kannapolis Early College) – We worked towards creating and conducting this year’s Hunger Drive. Proceeds will be going to cooperative Christian Ministry. Pep Rally and kickoff were on Friday 9/28. Planning and making decorations for Homecoming dance on 10/20. We will also be attending Western District Conference on 10/13. We created a point system to encourage attendance and participation.

Cosmetology –No Report

Criminal Justice – No Report (Absent)

L.I.F.T. – This past month of Lift Club we planned our next general meeting. The date for this meeting has not yet been decided. At this meeting we are planning to vote on a new leadership member, decide on our next community and campus service projects, and have a discussion. We have also discussed how we would partner with other clubs on campus. We have spoken to the president of PRISM with whom we will be possibly doing a campus service project with.

M.I.S.T.E.R. – The M.I.S.T.E.R club volunteered at local elementary schools. We are also looking into Calibrating with different clubs.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) – We met on September 6, 2018 on south campus and September 7th at north. We discussed the upcoming meeting dates, as well as the upcoming officer training summit and conferences. We made a motion to start committees for community service projects. We attended an information meeting at CBTC. We voted in the new Vice-President, Jessica Dabbs. We discussed the poinsettia tree that will be located on north campus and the new one on south. PBL also helped man the native American story telling with Ramona Big Eagle on south campus for global distinction day next meeting is October 4 at south and 5 at north.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) – No Report (Absent)

P.R.I.S.M. – There will be a Skype meeting held on north campus to introduce PRISM members to south campus on October 23rd from 12 pm-1 pm. During the fall festival there will be a PRISM table set up and a few games such as, Pumpkin ring toss, a guessing jar, and a raffle. There will be a meeting on south campus from 12 pm- 1 pm on October 23rd discussing the schooling in third world countries and its differences. The campus service project will possibly include three informative issues (religion, global education, and gender issues.) We were also considering having a food drive for a house fire victim.

Radiography – On September 20, 2018 the Radiography Club had a meeting where we discussed our Breast Cancer Awareness event, veteran’s dinner, and other upcoming events. Our Breast Cancer Awareness event will be held on October 26th, 2018 on both north and south campuses. We will promote Breast Cancer Awareness through posters, activities and dances during December. We will finalize a date and time at our next meeting.

RCEC – RCEC will be looking to host our annual dance in November for Early College students. RCEC has participated in focus groups for the college.

Rotoract- No Report (Absent)

Skills USA – The Skills club is looking for members to join the club. Competitions are offered in many different categories skills meet every month.

Student Nursing Association (SNA) – Our first meeting was on September 18, 2018. We discussed fund raising ideas. Our next meeting will be on October 16 and we will be finalizing our fundraising ideas. We have also elected new officers.

Tri Beta (Biology Club) – We had a pizza party as an introductory meeting for people who are majoring in Biology. We also heard the speeches of students that are running for each position. Lastly we had elections for positions that were opposed on NavSync.

Veterans Club – On September 13 we held a health fair and luncheon. We had 20 plus in attendance. We started a group chat to make it easier to communication. We are also looking into volunteering with the V.A. and D.A.V.

Welding – No Report (Absent)

W.O.W. – On September 19 we had our first round table as a club. We discussed women issues and what is going on in the world as far as women’s rights. We also discussed what we wanted to do for the women here on campus and some ideas of what that would be. Our next meeting will be held on October 19.
