Reports

President’s Report

Covid-19 has affected the way we all conduct our lives, including the Board of Trustees. I attended the monthly meeting using Zoom on 03/23 where I gave the Student Life Annual Report.

During the 2019-20 academic year students engaged in 353 opportunities outside the classroom through the SGA, Clubs, the Student Ambassador program, conferences, and competitions. Resulting in 2,706 participation hours in events and over 2000 community service hours; many through the health programs.

Campus Well, the college’s online magazine had 1,647 unique visitors over the last 6 months. Students accessed this resource which covers a variety of college
health issues including stress, sleep, nutrition, alcohol, safe sex, colds, flu, and more.

The National Society of Leadership & Success is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. The Rowan-Cabarrus chapter is completing its thirteenth year and had one hundred and seventy-two (172) students join in 2019-20. Of those, 46 participated in a new online pilot program resulting in a participation increase of 36%.

The passion and drive of our student leaders were evident when the Rowan County Bond Referendum information was shared in the November SGA meeting. Not only did the students vote to support the bond with a donation of $45,000 dollars towards promotional materials, but they also committed to completing 200 volunteer hours to help support the initiative.

278 hours of bond support through voter registration, educational bond tables, and community speaking engagements from Dec. – March 3. Over 20 students participated in poll support on March 3, completing 52 hours to educate and remind voters to Vote Yes! Students are excited in realizing their efforts paid off and know the legacy they leave will support generations of students for years to come

The Board of Trustees voted to move forward in the next phase of campus renovations to include updating the Teaching Auditorium on North Campus and bidding for renovations to the Emergency Services Fire Technology area.

Although the campus is closed all services are still offered to students remotely. There is a form on the college website under Covid-19 Q & A for students, faculty, or staff to submit for student needs, including mental health services, financial support, IT services including WIFI and laptops, and unseen financial needs.

The Krispy Kreme fundraiser donations have been sent.
Rowan County Relay for Life in the amount of $250
United Way Cabarrus County in the amount of $250
The Ladle Sponsorship for Taste of Abundance in the amount of $250 has been paid.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you this year; we have accomplished so much in a short time and will leave an amazing legacy!

Art & Design Club
Art and Design Club has decided to spend our funds on art supplies. We have a total of five students ordering supplies and we’re wanting to have the supplies shipped directly to the students’ houses for their safety.

CKEC
Though we have not been in school for a month, CKEC has been able to still interact with our school through social media. We held a virtual spirit week where they sent in pictures and TikTok for us to post on our Student Council Instagram. We are finding out a way to commemorate our seniors just in case our high school graduation gets canceled as well.

MISTER
During the COVID-19, MISTER has been volunteering by doing virtual get-well cards to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Also, the MISTER club has been doing virtual members check-ups on each other and our families.

PTK
Our Chapter of PTK has been working hard to cope with the cancellations that COVID-19 has brought to us. We have had to postpone our spring induction ceremony as well as our spring service project. We are still trying to get our graduating members ready to graduate and help prepare them for the future.

Tri-Beta (Biology)
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all remaining club events for the spring term are canceled. This includes the stream cleanup planned on April 17th and the meeting planned that day as well. All future meetings for the spring term have been canceled as well.
