President’s Report

  • The Wellness Center & Accessibility Services
I attended the Board of Trustees Meeting on September 27th. New faculty and staff were introduced including Alyssa Mitchell, Student Activities Coordinator, located on North Campus. Committee updates included Building and Grounds with updates on window installation and HVAC unit updates, Enrollment which is currently down, and the SACS accreditation process.
  • The Student Success Department reported on student needs here at Rowan-Cabarrus and across the state. Currently, 8% of adults and 12% of NC children face food insecurity, 22% of NC adults struggle to pay rent, and only 39% of North Carolinians have access to affordable internet. Vice President Mrs. Lipscomb shared the college resources and services available to support the needs of students which include an online chatbot so students can speak with a live person via chat, the Wellness Center, Food Pantry, Laptop Loaner Program, and Wireless Access Points, as well as emergency funding available to support students’ financial needs.
  • The Foundation will be hosting its annual fundraiser, Rowan-Cabarrus Golf Class October 15th, where funds are raised for student scholarships. SGA is a sponsor of this tournament and the Foundation sent their appreciation of the SGA’s sponsorship.
  • On September 18th, Justin Davis and I attended the Central Division meeting virtually where we took part in workshops and division meetings, intended to support our SGA locally and statewide. The North Carolina Comprehensive Community College SGA (N4CSGA) will host its fall conference in late October virtually.
  • The SGA has been thanked for their generosity by the Haywood Community College President and Foundation Director for our donation to their facility.
  • The Student Wellness Center sent appreciation for the $150 donation to support the needs of the Food Pantry.
  • I met with college president Dr. Spalding and Vice President Natasha Lipscomb, Monday, October 4, to discuss students’ concerns, needs, and college initiatives and how to collaborate to better serve our students.
