SALISBURY, N.C. – Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has launched a new Therapeutic Massage diploma program designed to prepare students for careers in direct client care settings focused on health, wellness and pain management. The program expands the College’s healthcare training offerings and supports the growing demand for skilled professionals in therapeutic and rehabilitative services.
The Therapeutic Massage diploma includes 37 to 40 semester hour credits and is designed to be completed in as few as three semesters. The program will welcome its first cohort in the fall of 2026 and features a curriculum that equips students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to manipulate soft tissue structures of the body to help prevent and alleviate pain, reduce stress, and promote overall wellness. Coursework includes human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic massage techniques, ethical and legal considerations, business practices, and psychology. Graduates will be prepared to provide entry-level therapeutic massage services to diverse populations across the lifespan.
“The launch of the Therapeutic Massage program reflects our commitment to expanding high-demand healthcare training that supports both individual well-being and workforce needs,” said Rowan-Cabarrus President Dr. Carol S. Spalding. “This program creates new opportunities for students to pursue meaningful careers while directly preparing them to serve clients in settings that prioritize healing, recovery and overall wellness.”
Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam and pursue employment in a variety of settings, including healthcare facilities, chiropractic offices, spas, health and sports clubs, and private practice. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for massage therapists is projected to increase by 15 percent from 2024 to 2034, with a median annual wage of $57,950, highlighting strong demand and career potential in the field.
Prospective students must complete the Rowan-Cabarrus admissions process and complete a required program information session and interview. Students offered contingent acceptance must also complete additional requirements.
