SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is proud to congratulate the College’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Janet N. Spriggs, on her selection as the seventh president of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Spriggs’ selection as president was affirmed on Friday, October 19, 2018, by the North Carolina Community College State Board, and she will begin her tenure at Forsyth Tech on January 1, 2019.

“It has been a distinct honor to work with Dr. Spriggs for the last seven years at Rowan-Cabarrus. I have been so very proud of the amazing accomplishments she has had here,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding. “While we are absolutely thrilled for her and for Forsyth Tech, we are definitely going to miss her.”

Spriggs has been an invaluable member of the Rowan-Cabarrus executive leadership team and has made a meaningful difference throughout her time. She recently obtained her doctoral degree from Northeastern University and while she will be missed at Rowan-Cabarrus, the College is so proud that she is fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a community college president.

Spriggs has served in the North Carolina Community College System for the last 22 years.

“It has been my great honor and privilege to work at Rowan-Cabarrus and to serve in Rowan and Cabarrus counties. This is a very special community and a place that will always be near and dear to my heart,” said Dr. Janet Spriggs. “I have been proud to serve the many students of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and I know that Dr. Spalding and the amazing staff and faculty will continue the positive work that the College is doing to change students’ lives.”

“It is a great compliment to the College to grow a president, and I know she will continue to succeed in her efforts to change student lives. She is committed to ensuring a smooth and successful transition as she concludes her career at Rowan-Cabarrus,” said Carl M. Short, chair of the Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees. “Dr. Spriggs has made an incredible, transformational impact on the College, our students, and the community. Her visionary leadership and passion for student success will be truly missed here but will continue at Forsyth Tech and across the North Carolina Community College System.”

Since this is a significant change to the College’s leadership, Dr. Spalding is looking broadly at her leadership team and considering options that will position the College for future growth and opportunity.

“I am confident that our Navigation Nation will continue to focus on student success to ensure a smooth transition in the coming weeks. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Spriggs on this tremendous achievement!” said Spalding.
