SALISBURY, N.C. – Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Brittany H. Barnhardt to the College’s Board of Trustees. Appointed by the North Carolina Senate, Barnhardt will serve a four-year term through June 30, 2029.

Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees members play a key role in providing strategic guidance, supporting policy development and advocating for student success. The Board’s efforts help ensure the College remains responsive, innovative and student-focused while advancing its mission to build sustainable futures through the power of learning.

Barnhardt currently serves as Mayor of Granite Quarry, where she has guided the town through a period of purposeful growth and investment. Under her leadership, the town has annexed more than 50 acres to support new residential, commercial and industrial projects, adopted its first Strategic Plan, and prioritized improvements to infrastructure, public safety and parks. Her efforts have resulted in expanded services, increased connectivity and enhanced quality of life for residents.

“Mayor Barnhardt understands the connection between strong communities and strong education,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus. “From workforce development to educational access, the College is shaping the future of our region, and I’m confident she will be a valuable part of that work.”

As a public servant, Barnhardt has also championed transparency and civic engagement. She has helped launch new platforms for communication, led community-building initiatives like National Night Out and Coffee with a Cop, and strengthened the town’s relationships with state partners and local stakeholders. Her collaborative leadership and firsthand knowledge of economic development will help guide the College’s efforts to align education with workforce needs.

“I’m honored to step into this role with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College,” Barnhardt said. “Education is a powerful force for change, and I’m committed to supporting the College’s efforts to uplift students and strengthen our communities.”

Barnhardt’s appointment to the Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees reflects her dedication to advancing opportunity across the region. With a background in both policy and public engagement, she brings valuable insight into how education can drive long-term economic and social impact. Her leadership experience at the local level positions her to contribute meaningfully to the College’s strategic goals.

“We’re excited to welcome Mayor Barnhardt to the Board of Trustees,” said Cyndie Mynatt, chair of the Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees. “She brings a clear understanding of community needs and a passion for public service that will help us expand opportunities for our students.”
