SALISBURY, N.C. – Rowan-Cabarrus Community College recognized three exceptional employees during a recent Board of Trustees meeting, honoring their leadership, dedication and impact throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. The Outstanding Employee Awards were presented to Zach Crum, Dr. Atlas Helaire and Aaron Tallman, each of whom exemplifies the College’s mission and values through their commitment to excellence, innovation and service.
Each year, employees across the College have the opportunity to nominate colleagues who demonstrate outstanding service, leadership and commitment. These nominations are then reviewed by a committee composed of employees who evaluate the submissions based on the College’s values and the nominee’s contributions. This peer-driven process reinforces the supportive culture of the College and ensures that honorees are recognized by those who work alongside them.
“We are honored to celebrate Zach, Atlas and Aaron as our 2024-2025 Outstanding Employees,” said Rowan-Cabarrus President Dr. Carol S. Spalding. “Their leadership, innovation and commitment to our students and community reflect the very best of the College. Each of them contributes to our shared success in unique and meaningful ways.”
Zach Crum serves as the Scheduling and Facility Coordinator, overseeing academic scheduling operations that support approximately 2,500 course builds each year across six campuses. He manages room usage for nearly 130 instructional spaces and works closely with academic chairs, deans and campus partners to ensure the efficient and equitable use of facilities. His work requires strong attention to detail, clear communication and the ability to navigate complex logistics while supporting academic needs across the College. Crum holds a Master of Education in Higher Education Student Development from American College of Education. Prior to his current role, he supported dual enrollment students in advising and career coaching roles, strengthening his commitment to access, equity and student success.
Dr. Atlas Helaire III serves as the Director of Career and College Promise Programs, leading dual enrollment and early college partnerships across the College. In this role, he works closely with local school districts, Early Colleges and the College’s Student Success Services division to strengthen academic pathways and expand access for high school students pursuing college credentials. His work requires strategic leadership, collaboration and a strong commitment to student development and success. Dr. Helaire holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy from Pepperdine University. His background as a classroom teacher, administrator and district leader continues to shape his student-centered approach to leadership and educational access. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to helping students succeed.
Aaron Tallman serves as the Director of Marketing and Communications and leads the College’s strategic storytelling, brand visibility and student-focused outreach efforts. Under his leadership, Rowan-Cabarrus has strengthened its digital communication presence, expanded accessibility practices and increased engagement across web, social and multimedia platforms. His work requires a clear strategy, collaboration across departments and the ability to translate complex initiatives into meaningful, public-facing communication. Tallman holds an associate degree in Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology and is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication and Management at Wingate University. As a former community college faculty member for 12 years, his work remains deeply rooted in student success, access and educational opportunity.
“Zach, Atlas and Aaron represent the heart of Rowan-Cabarrus,” said Chief Human Resources and Organizational Culture Officer Nekita Eubanks. “Their dedication to excellence, teamwork and student success inspires all of us. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and the impact they have made across our College community.”
