KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Rowan-Cabarrus Community College invites the community to attend its free STEM Open House on Thursday, April 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the College’s facilities at the North Carolina Research Campus. This event highlights the College’s STEM programs and provides the community with an opportunity to learn more about its offerings in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including more than 40 programs designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in the region. As part of the broader North Carolina Science Festival, the Rowan-Cabarrus STEM Open House supports a statewide effort to inspire interest in science through interactive learning opportunities.

Beginning at 5 p.m., both Rowan-Cabarrus buildings at the North Carolina Research Campus will offer a full lineup of hands-on STEM experiences demonstrating real-world applications. Guests can participate in interactive experiments, speak directly with faculty, and explore educational and career opportunities in science and technology fields. Featured activities include an Elephant Toothpaste Race, DIY lava lamps, plant molecular genetics demonstrations, hands-on exploration of electricity and magnetism, and more.

“By showcasing interactive demonstrations and our academic programs at Rowan-Cabarrus, we help students and families better understand how STEM disciplines lead to meaningful, in-demand careers,” said Rowan-Cabarrus President Dr. Carol S. Spalding. “Events like this demonstrate the impact and accessibility of STEM education in our community.”

A food truck will be available on-site throughout the event, offering food and beverages for purchase. This free event is open to all ages and experience levels.

“We are pleased to highlight the innovation and training happening at Rowan-Cabarrus,” said Rowan-Cabarrus Vice President Dr. Michael Quillen. “Through hands-on experiences at the STEM Open House, we aim to spark curiosity and help attendees recognize how science and technology influence the world around them every day.”

Rowan-Cabarrus will also welcome local high school students on Friday, April 24, for a dedicated, guided STEM experience. Students will participate in structured tours and hands-on demonstrations designed to provide a more in-depth look at STEM programs and related career pathways.
