Goals

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Dental Assisting Goals and Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. To provide the learning content and experiences and supportive environment that will enable students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to:
      • Assist at chairside in four-handed dentistry with all procedures common to general practice.
      • Provide clinical support functions and emergency care.
      • Perform basic business office and dental laboratory procedures.
      • Provide diagnostic aids and oral health instruction.
      • Protect the health and safety of the dental team and patients.
      • Practice ethically and within the laws and regulations for local, state, and federal agencies.
  2. To maintain program accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association for quality assurance.
  3. To maintain a partnership with the local dental community fostered by giving and receiving assistance in job placement, continuing education, community service, consultation and by providing qualified DAIIs.
  4. To assess program outcomes regularly via formal and informal mechanisms and to utilize the results for perpetual program revision and improvement.
  5. To uphold the values of the college for excellence in education, accountability, accessibility, lifelong learning, concern for students, effective management, intellectual orientation, and personal development.
