Course Description: “De-escalation for Patrol Officers” is a comprehensive training course designed to equip law enforcement officers with effective communication and conflict resolution techniques to safely manage high-stress encounters. This course emphasizes the importance of de-escalation strategies in reducing the use of force, enhancing community trust, and ensuring officer and public safety. Through interactive forum discussions and evidence-based practices, participants will learn how to recognize early signs of agitation, employ verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and apply tactical patience to resolve conflicts peacefully. This training aims to foster a mindset of safety, professionalism, and community partnership in everyday patrol duties.

Instructor Bio: Timothy Quigley, Special Agent, FBI (retired), currently a Professor at Coastal Carolina University, has interviewed, investigated and prosecuted numerous individuals who violated such federal crimes as Money Laundering, Securities Fraud, Mortgage Fraud, Advanced Title III Drug Cases, and other federal violations. As a Hostage/Crisis Negotiator and certified instructor, Tim has organized and facilitated the FBI’s 40 Hour Crisis Negotiation Course, been involved in national and international kidnappings, and has deployed with the Horry County Crisis Negotiation Team and the Myrtle Beach Police Crisis Negotiation Team. Tim’s education includes a B.S. in Accounting, a M.S. in Forensic Accounting, and a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology.
