Course Description: This class is an intense course for the first line supervisor and will cover a wide variety of topics and areas. Students will engage in a review of Emotional Intelligence and Self-Awareness; Time Management and Managing Employee Work Schedules; techniques to Effectively Deal with Problem Employees; how to avoid allegations of Sexual Harassment and Inappropriate Behaviors; Use of Force, Pursuit, and Vehicle Crash Administrative Investigations; Leading During and Managing Active Scenes/Dynamic Incidents/Officer Involved Shootings; Basic Duties – Handling Internal Complaints, Taking Disciplinary Action, Supervisor as Trainer and Effective Use of Roll Call; Motivating Employees; Creating Professional Culture; Mitigating Citizen Complaints and Minor Policy Violations/Complaints; Tips for Motivating Staff; Avoiding a Toxic Work Environment; Leader Thought Process (Communicating Expectations and Making Unpopular Decisions); and much more.
