Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

Course Description: This 40-hr. course of instruction is designed to educate law enforcement officers about people in crisis and how to assist the ‘customer’ and/or relatives or friends of the crisis consumer calling for assistance. Many times law enforcement officers are the first line of contact. Upon completion of this training, the law enforcement officer could directly assist the consumer and/or collect information to relay to the receiving facility. The benefits for law enforcement; specialized training, enhances community policing efforts, remember the use of force during a crisis, significantly reduces the risk of injury, cost savings in time, money and resources, an appropriate alterative to arrest and incarceration for the person in crisis. Benefits for the individual; Better relationships are developed between individuals and law enforcement, the stigma of incarceration in local jails is removed, consumers receive more timely, efficient, and therapeutic assessments and treatment.
