  • Date: June 14, 2021 to July 9, 2021                Registration for this class closes on 6/7/2021.
  • Course Hours: 16

Course Description:  Verbal communication exists on three levels:  One: What the interviewee said, Two: what the interviewee wanted to say and three: what the interviewer heard.  The interviewing goal is for the interviewer to move level three as close to level one as possible.  However, within the narrative, there are linguistic features, which, to the informed and attentive interviewer, can provide a conduit into a deeper understanding of the mindset of the interviewee.  Having gained this insight, the interviewer can incorporate the awareness into the conduct of the interview, increasing the opportunity for a positive interview outcome.  Participants should have previously completed a foundational interviewing class.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this training the participant will be able to:

  • Define the linguistic elements presented;
  • Identify the elements from interviewee’s narrative found within a video portion of an interview;
  • Develop subsequent amplifying questions.

Methods of Instruction: Online

Course Content (by session or by subject): As stated/outlined by the instructor lesson plan

Evaluation Procedures:  Student will be completing practical exercise assignments, content assessments and participating in practical exercises that will be evaluated throughout the session. The student must successfully complete all assignments and practical exercises to receive a satisfactory grade.
