The Exculpatory Interview

Course Description: This course introduces the exculpatory interview as a structured investigative interviewing approach that evaluates both inculpatory and exculpatory information while reducing the impact of cognitive bias. Participants will learn how to apply investigative techniques that test competing explanations, assess information through corroboration and evidence triangulation, and support objective, evidence-based decision-making. The course also covers interview planning, question development, documentation, and the preparation of defensible investigative reports and clearance determinations.
