Programs Offered
The Associate in Arts degree is designed to provide a strong foundation in college-level reading, writing, communication, math and basic computer skills. Students take courses across the humanities and social sciences, which help develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication.
This degree is intended for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree. Courses in the program are approved for transfer through statewide agreements. Students who complete the degree with a C or higher in each course and a minimum 2.0 GPA are eligible to transfer to a public university in North Carolina with junior standing. Many independent colleges and universities in North Carolina also accept this degree for transfer.
The Associate in Arts program is a strong option for students who want to explore majors and career interests before choosing a specific field. It provides a flexible and supportive pathway for students working toward bachelor’s degrees in areas such as education, business, communication, social work, nursing, public administration, the arts and other related fields.
