Fire and Emergency Services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers respond as part of emergency services system to provide care to the sick and injured. Four levels of EMS providers are credentialed in North Carolina. These levels include:
- Emergency Medical Responder
- Emergency Medical Technician
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
- Paramedic
- EMS Specialty Education
EMS providers may serve in public or private settings as first responders, emergency ambulance teams, non-emergency stretcher transportation, critical care transportation and non-traditional practice settings.

Advanced EMT Letter of Review Status
The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College AEMT program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status; it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. The Letter of Review NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
