Basic Narcotics Investigation
Course Description: This 50-hour Monday through Friday course is designed for newly assigned or soon-to-be assigned narcotics investigators or officers interested in a career path in narcotics investigation. This course will cover the basic techniques of narcotics investigation used daily. The course will cover in detail NC, drug law, surveillance, operational planning, case planning, undercover work, informant management, selection, search warrant preparation, and more. The course will be instructed by current narcotics agents and supervisors from state and Local Agencies. The course is taught in real-time, with practical exercises each day. Participants should be prepared for extremely long days and nights. Participants will be required to conduct an investigation from start to finish for the final presentation. Activities include surveillance, controlled or UC purchases, Informant management and procurement, search warrant preparation, and final arrest planning and presentation for prosecution. Recommended Equipment: Participants should bring technical equipment currently used by their Agency, including, but not limited to, surveillance equipment, trackers, cameras, wires, or other equipment. Unmarked cars are recommended but not a requirement. This is a hands-on course, making real-time decisions.
