Advanced K-9 Explosives Detection Operations & Threat Assessment Training
Course Description: The Advanced K-9 Explosives Detection Operations and Threat Assessment course is designed for both experienced and emerging professional explosives detection canine handlers and supervisors seeking to enhance operational readiness, detection proficiency, and team effectiveness in complex real-world environments. This intensive training program builds upon foundational explosives detection principles and focuses on advanced search strategies, odor recognition theory, operational deployment, and leadership considerations for explosives detection canine teams. Participants will engage in classroom instruction and practical exercises covering advanced explosive threat recognition, search planning and management, vehicle and building searches, mass transit environments, large-area and open-area searches, high-risk event security operations, and emerging threats. Emphasis is placed on handler decision-making, canine behavior analysis, operational safety, legal considerations, documentation, and performance evaluation. Supervisors will gain additional insight into program management, training records, team readiness assessments, risk management, and the effective deployment of explosives detection canine resources during critical incidents and special events. Through scenario-based training, students will strengthen their ability to deploy canine teams effectively in dynamic operational settings while maintaining industry best practices and nationally recognized standards.
There is an additional $200 fee for this training. Prerequisites for K-9 Teams: successful completion of basic explosives detection course; current assignment as an explosives detection canine handler or supervisor of explosives/emergency response personnel.
