Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Tele-communicator / EMS

Course Description: This 16-hr. course of instruction is designed to educate tele-communications personnel about people in crisis and how to assist the ‘customer’ and/or relatives or friends of the crisis consumer calling for assistance. Professional 911 operators are routinely the initial point of contact for those who are in crisis. Upon completion of this training, the tele-communicator will understand the variety of response techniques officers in the field may utilize when conducting their responses. They will also acquire skills to assist them in gathering and disseminating the appropriate information to the responding officers. The program provides information on the signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis; information on medication and treatment options; suicide assessment and prevention techniques; community resource information; and a wide variety of verbal de-escalation skills.
