In an interview, the subject possesses actionable information, knows you want to extract that information and is willing to cooperate. With compliance-gaining interviewing, the subject possessed the actionable information, knows you want to extract the information and is not readily willing to cooperate. With elicitation, we are communicating with a subject possessing information, not aware you want the actionable information and subsequently shares that information with you. Within elicitation interviewing, we synthesize the elements of the three contexts into a more synergistic interviewing procedure.
Objectives
Given a video of an interview, the participant will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the highlighted elicitation techniques addressed in the curriculum;
- Present a plan as to what elicitation technique could be incorporated at specific points within an interview;
- Given the facts of a case, develop a viable interview strategy to include four of the highlighted elicitation techniques into the conduct of the interview.
