In our society, there’s an ever growing number of individuals impacted by some form of intellectual disability.  Frequently members of this population are victimized by care givers, family members, or other members of their peer group.  Responding to incidents involving a person with Down Syndrome, Intellectual delay, Traumatic Brain Injury, or Autism can be a very daunting task.   Whether the individual is a victim, witness, or offender – the necessity of obtaining accurate, detailed information during an investigation is of paramount importance to breaking the cycle of abuse and prosecuting the offender.
During this training event, subject matter experts will address aspects of each of these peer groups and will aid the attendee in understanding how to navigate conducting the interview and yielding accurate results.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with a panel of clinicians, parents, care-givers, and criminal prosecutors to ask questions about how to best plan for and conduct the interview.
This training is free to all North Carolina state and local law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel.   All other attendees must pre-register and pay the $70.00 fee for the class.  Students who must pay for the training should complete the following Registration Form.  Students may register for this class by emailing their request to Chuck Adams.
