Course Description:

Investigations involve a continual series of interconnecting, cognitive processes. Attention is necessary to focus on the task and select relevant information. Reasoning is used to make sense of the information available and missing in order to draw conclusions. Finally, decision-making is involved in choosing the most appropriate course of action.

This course introduces participants to the principles and techniques of investigative reasoning. Students will learn how to think critically, evaluate evidence, and draw logical conclusions in various investigative scenarios. Through a combination of recorded lectures, case study, and hands-on exercises, participants will develop their analytical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the investigative process.

Course Objectives:

  1. Apply logical reasoning to analyze complex problems.
  2. Evaluate the reliability and credibility of different types of evidence.
  3. Identify common fallacies and biases in investigative thinking.
  4. Construct persuasive arguments based on sound evidence.
  5. Demonstrate effective communication skills in presenting investigative findings.

Assessment Methods:

Students will be assessed through a series of assignments, including problem-solving exercises, case analyses. Engagement in discussions will also be taken into account.
