Effective Fall 2026, the College has a new Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas!

Classes have a Canvas component, located on the Canvas Dashboard under “Published Courses”, which is available on the start date of the class. See the Academic Calendar for 16-week, 14-week and 8-week start dates.

Students access the Canvas course to complete the required entry activity called the EVA (enrollment verification assignment) and to view the class syllabus and gradebook. Depending on the delivery method of the class (Internet, HyFlex, Hybrid or Blended), students access instructional content and course materials, submit assignments, and participate in discussions in the Canvas course.

Students should:

• Do the EVA as soon as the class begins. It is located under Start Here in the Modules section of each Canvas course site. Not completing it by the deadline can negatively impact enrollment in the class and financial aid.
• Check their Canvas courses and College email account often for important course information and communication throughout the semester.
• Review the class syllabus, which is provided for each class under Course Information in the Modules section of each Canvas course site.

Canvas Help:

• For help navigating Canvas or using tools in Canvas, refer to the support options posted on the Help menu in Canvas and described on the Canvas Support webpage.
• For login issues, contact the College Helpdesk or submit a ticket.

Note: Course-specific questions, such as those about assignments, course content, grades, tests, textbooks or e-texts, should be directed to the faculty member instructing the course.

Logging Into College Systems:

Student User ID - last name - up to 10 characters.first initial.last 5 digits of Student ID

For example: Shawn Christopherson with Student ID #0087654 would have the user ID: christophe.s.87654. You will log in to Blackboard with your email address that includes the student user ID @student.rccc.edu (example: christophe.s.87654@student.rccc.edu).

Password - You’ll have one password. The initial default password is mmddyyyy@B3@c0n! (where the mmddyyy is your birthdate and the 0 at the end of the password is a zero). Once you login to any campus application for the first time, such as the LMS or email, you will be prompted to reset your password.

Canvas Support

The College offers resources to support students in using Canvas tools and features.

• Passport to Canvas is a free, self-paced “course” inside Canvas. It provides an overview to navigating courses, submitting assignments and quizzes, viewing grades and participating in student-to-student and student-to-faculty activities. The course is available from the Canvas Dashboard.
• Need help using Canvas tools or navigating in Canvas? There are options:
  • When logged into Canvas, click the Help icon in the navigation menu for support provided directly by Canvas, including Chat, Hotline, How-to Guides and Tickets. The Passport course can be accessed from Help, too.
  • On North Campus and South Campus, students can also visit the Library or Tutoring to get Canvas assistance.
