The timely, accurate, and thorough communication of information about crisis situations and on-campus crimes is an important aspect of an effective public safety/security program. A primary purpose of RCCC’s Crisis Communication Plan is: “To ensure accurate information is provided as promptly as possible to help persons associated with the college (including internal and external audiences) assess the safety and well being of individuals and facilities. Further, the plan ensures “the college communicates accurate information in a consistent manner through authorized spokespersons.”
RCCC provides campus security through the use of several law enforcement agencies and one private security company. Security on RCCC’s North Campus in Salisbury is provided by Rowan County Sheriff’s Department deputies. Security on the South Campus in Kannapolis is provided by a combination of officers from a private security company (P&G Security) and officers from the Kannapolis City Police Department. Security at the Cabarrus Business and Technology Center (CBTC) in Concord is provided by the Concord City Police Department. Security for the Cloverleaf Plaza Center in Kannapolis is provided by the private security company (P&G). Security at the North Carolina Research Campus Building in Kannapolis is provided by the private security company (P&G) with augmentation available from the research campus police department. Law enforcement officers from the city police departments and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department are armed while on duty and have the authority to make arrests and carry out other law enforcement actions as they would elsewhere within their respective jurisdictions.
