Class Information

Auto Safety Inspection Certification

This eight-hour course certifies safety inspectors according to state law. The course includes lecture, lab and exit examination. The textbook is the Safety and Emissions Inspection Regulations Manual. You may print it from the NCDOT website, but a copy of the manual is provided to each student at the beginning of class.

Small Engine Mechanic
This course is designed to cover both four stroke and two stroke engine theory of both hand held and gasoline powered small engines. The students will gain knowledge on small engine fundamentals through seminars containing power points, text and work books and web base training from Honda and Briggs & Stratton. They will receive hands on experience with the tear down and inspection of Honda four stroke engine in accordance to manufacturer’s specifications. Students will then rebuild the engine and test run and tune to manufacturer’s specifications.

The course also covers servicing and troubleshooting of small engines. Students will be given an engine with a problem or issue and demonstrate how to troubleshoot and solve the issue with the engine. Students may use school engines or bring in their own engine for this section.

This course covers shop safety practices and the use of general and specialty hand and measuring tools. The course will also briefly cover jobs in the field of small engine repair.

Hybrid Vehicle Overview & Basic Safety - NEW
Students will gain skills needed to understand hybrid vehicles, basic maintenance on hybrid vehicles, basic safety when working on hybrid vehicles and where to locate important information about hybrid vehicles.
OBD II Certification

This course now covers both initial certifications, as well as re-certifications. For re-certifications, students must have and bring to class proof of certification.

The course includes lecture, lab and exit examination. The textbook is Safety and Emissions Inspection Regulations Manual. Basic Forklift Operator

12 hours

Powered industrial trucks, or forklifts, are an essential piece of equipment in many workplaces, but they account for more industrial accidents than any other type of equipment. This course provides an overview of basic forklift usage and strict safety guidelines, using both classroom instruction and hands-on sessions.

Topics include how to:

  • Basic safety operations, maintenance and OSHA compliance issues
  • Compliance with OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck standard
  • Stacking strategies with consideration of trailers, ramps and elevators

Upon successful completion of the course, students will know how to safely operate a sit-down forklift and will receive a National Safety Council Certificate of Completion.*

*Site-specific and equipment-specific training must still be provided by employers to meet OSHA certification.
