Class Information

Auto Safety Inspection Certification
This eight-hour course certifies safety inspectors according to state law. The course includes lecture, lab and exit examination. The textbook is the Safety and Emissions Inspection Regulations Manual. You may print it from the NCDOT website, but a copy of the manual is provided to each student at the beginning of class.
Small Engine Mechanic
This course is designed to cover both four stroke and two stroke engine theory of both hand held and gasoline powered small engines. The students will gain knowledge on small engine fundamentals through seminars containing power points, text and work books and web base training from Honda and Briggs & Stratton. They will receive hands on experience with the tear down and inspection of Honda four stroke engine in accordance to manufacturer’s specifications. Students will then rebuild the engine and test run and tune to manufacturer’s specifications.

The course also covers servicing and troubleshooting of small engines. Students will be given an engine with a problem or issue and demonstrate how to troubleshoot and solve the issue with the engine. Students may use school engines or bring in their own engine for this section.

This course covers shop safety practices and the use of general and specialty hand and measuring tools. The course will also briefly cover jobs in the field of small engine repair.
