Law Enforcement Programs

About Basic Law Enforcement Training

The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills expected of the entry-level law enforcement officer. Many of our instructors are former or current law enforcement officers who bring the added value of their actual on-the-job experiences which enhances their presentation.

This course should be taken by newly employed or prospective law enforcement officers seeking to meet the certification requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.

BLET consists of 690 hours of instruction and is typically offered three times per year, including two day courses and one night course.

  • Day (Fall) Program – 18-week day course meeting Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. August 8, 2022 through December 9, 2022.
  • Night (Fall) Program – 35-week night course meeting Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m. September 27, 2022 through April 22, 2022.

Weekend classes are required occasionally in both the day and night courses; Saturday and Sunday hours vary.
