About Basic Law Enforcement Training

The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills expected of the entry-level law enforcement officer. Many of our instructors are former or current law enforcement officers who bring the added value of their actual on-the-job experiences which enhances their presentation.

This course should be taken by newly employed or prospective law enforcement officers seeking to meet the certification requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.

BLET consists of 868 hours of instruction and is typically offered two times per year with start dates in January and July.

January – June: 23-week course meeting Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

July – December: 23-week course meeting Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Weekend classes are required occasionally; Saturday and Sunday hours vary.
